Road Trip 13 – day 4

Standard

Long day today on our unexpected and unplanned road trip. We started the day in Cardiff at a cracking hotel we managed to get a deal or online – not often I’d recommend websites but hotels.com came up trumps for us on this one instead of a bill of around £350 for a family executive room, breakfast and parking we paid £109! The Novotel was right in the centre of the city and very handy for today’s trip.

We went to the Doctor Who experience and it was great to see all the props, costumes and other things from behind the scenes of the show. Jake got a wee bit scared during the interactive experience when three huge Daleks appeared around us – on the other hand Jenna was fearless throughout the whole thing. Don’t think she’s got any fear at all that one.

The highlight was going to the actual Tardis set in the BBC Wales Studios just along from the exhibition. I looks better close up than it does on the TV and it is a fantastic piece of design and building – with HD everything has to be perfect and it looked great. They said at Peter Capaldi’s Doctor will continue with the same interior for the immediate future.

From there to Blackpool for Pie and Chips, a quick look at the tower and a play in the arcades before heading up the road to our hotel in Carlisle. This might have been a spontaneous adventure but I’ve loved it and we’ve talked about doing a more organised and lengthy version next year as there is so much in the UK we both want to see.

Last day tomorrow and we’ve no idea where it will take us apart from back home by bedtime. I don’t want it to end but I doubt the bank balance would survive much longer!
